Ruth Roman is the youngest daughter of Lithuanian and Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. As a child, Ruth Roman's carnival-barker father passed away in a tragic way, which caused her mother, Mary Pauline (Gold) to work as an attendant or cleaner to help them survive. Ruth went to school in the tenement district of Boston's most deprived. After only two school years the young woman left to pursue an acting profession. Her path wasn't without its challenges. While in New York, her first job involved posing stills in crime magazines. acting work she longed for was not available. Then, she worked as an hat-checker at the nightclub before calling it quits and returning to Boston. There she earned a living working as an usherette during the day, and at night performing with the New England Repertory Company. This was her very first job as an actor. In addition, she was a drama student and eventually graduated from the Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
